🌸 Introduction to the Valley of Flowers

Located at an altitude of about 3,658 meters (12,000 ft) in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, the Valley of Flowers is a botanical paradise. Every year during the monsoon season (July to September), the valley comes alive with more than 500 species of wildflowers blooming in vibrant colors — pinks, blues, yellows, and purples.

It stretches over 87.50 square kilometers and lies in the core zone of the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve.

🏞️ History and Discovery

Though local villagers were always aware of the valley, it was officially discovered in 1931 by British mountaineer Frank Smythe while returning from a successful expedition to Mount Kamet. Enchanted by its beauty, he later wrote the famous book “The Valley of Flowers”, which brought international attention to the region.
